Why stay at Bucks House

This beautiful house, built in 1510, is  my family home.  Now the family have flown the nest, I love to welcome guests to enjoy the beauty and comfort it offers. Bucks House was lived in by one of the Bardfield Artists in the 1950's and 1960's, Stanley Clifford Smith. It is furnished with antiques and lots of paintings, some of which are by local artists. Grayson Perry lived in our village and still retains his connections here. Our walled garden and patio is available to guest to enjoy.

Whether visiting family or friends, attending a wedding, christening or party, or simply wanting to have a relaxing few days in the country, Bucks House is the the perfect place. We pride ourselves on comfortable bedrooms, delicious breakfasts and a warm welcome.  We can help with organising a taxi, somewhere to eat, or planning a day out in our beautiful surrounding countryside and the medieval villages and towns that surround us.

Within easy reach,  you can visit Saffron Walden, where the Fry Art Gallery displays many of the paintings of the Bardfield artists. Saffron Walden is itself a lovely market town well worth a visit. Only two miles from Saffron Walden is Audley End House, a beautiful English Heritage property with its stunning gardens and miniature railway. Cambridge is also not too far away, with its famous colleges, the River Cam and punting on the menu. Finchingfield, reputed to be one of the prettiest villages in England, is 2 miles away, with tea rooms, three pubs. an antiques centre and medieval guildhall, museum.
